Step by step … brick by brick!
Excitement is mounting ... The Latrines are finished ... Hard, hard work literally from the ground up!
Many donated towards buying the ISSB (Interlocking Stabilised Soil Brick) making machine. This school will be a unique structure using this new technology.
The ISSBs are strong, economical bricks made from a mixture of sub-soil and a small quantity of cement. They are strong, uniform in size and shape and make construction so much easier. A cost analysis reveals savings of around 50% using the ISSBs. They are also environmentally friendly as the bricks are ‘cured’ NOT fired. If clay bricks were to be used, 15 tons of wood would be needed for each firing, causing much air pollution and deforestation.
Notice the beautiful farm land in the photos? That is school land. Members of the Community have not been idle. Once the land was bought and while waiting for measurements to be taken, soil tested, plans drawn up and all the legal stuff sorted out, crops have been planted.
Are not victories achieved one choice at a time! Who is ready to help build this school one brick at a time?
